Its been a while since I've drawn this goon. Commission work is done, so I can start to focus back on personal projects. I know that I should make a rough prototype for my game before restarting the art, but I'd love to have another run cycle going. Oh the choices. Well, here's a quick lift pose. Trying to add some more personality to the drawings to liven things up.

I'm sure he doesn't move very quick at all, but I quickly jotted him down in a notebook after lunch today. I'm a little busy with commission work and such at the moment, so I won't have anything terribly new for the blog this week. Luckily, I was able to take a few moments on break and throw down a quick robot idea. Might take this one a little further. He looks like something that could be easily broken into pieces and animated. Might have to give that a try.

So this is still coming along. I'm still building out the character in Toon Boom Animate Pro and inserting those pieces into Spriter. The problem I'm running in to is that Toon Boom doesn't seem to have a way to render our all of the layers separately...at least know way that I know. At the moment, I am hiding all other layers to just render the ones I want. Its kind of a pain. Toon Boom's twitter account pointed me to their support staff, so I'm hoping they have an easy solution.
On the Spriter front (see above), I'm finally getting my hands dirty. It seems pretty simple once you've been dealing with other skeletal animation systems. I'm definitely a fan. It even has a setting for locking the key frames to a specific frame rate. While that's great, I'd really like it to display those keyframes as their frame numbers rather than the number of milliseconds. Maybe that's wishful thinking. Who knows.
EDIT: Edgar Muniz (@lucidthecoder) saw my post and was nice enough to point out that the frame display was right in front of me the whole time. Thank god for the internet.

I'm in the beginning stages of creating my new website and banner. Looking for a little bit of movement, I've decided to check out Spriter for animations and build out my art with skeletal animation in mind. The different parts are being built in Toon Boom Animate Pro, so at the very least I can test it out. The whole thing will animate much more when I'm finished. Now, time to get back to work.

Well, I'm in the middle of some commission work, so while I'm very busy, I haven't been able to post. I'm hoping to kick up production on the game again as well as revamp the website. Both are constantly on my mind, but time is always of the essence. And I sure don't have much of it. Currently, I'm working on a baseball themed video and thought I might share some rough animation. I really had to study some batting video to get this close to correct. I'm in the process of cleaning it up now. So, given permission, I'll have that up too.
The video is enjoyed best when the song "Take On Me" is being sung.
