Its been forever since I've been able to work on anything for my Superhero game. The schedule is getting so hectic that I'm going to have to squeeze in what I can when I can. So I decided to start trying to bang out some art assets as my art warm ups before I start other projects. I also got a little bit smarter about using Construct 2 and turned some stuff into tiles and playing with reusing other assets and adjusting colors. My work computer is so slow that the games barely gets over 5 frames a second. I'm curious to how this more efficient use of tiles changes its ability to run on slower computers. I don't have too high of hopes. I'm really wanting to fill out the city and I don't see that going well for ancient computers.

At last weeks Drink and Draw Social Club: Cleveland, I finally got a chance to sit down and work some more on my blog header. It had been so long since I animated anything, even something as simple as the cape flap. Well, "seemingly" simple. Pulling it off was a little more difficult than I would have liked. Getting it to look natural was harder than I thought and I still think I might adjust some of the timing before I add it into my Construct 2 file. Here is a quick preview in rough form.

While its felt like a lifetime since I've made any progress with my superhero game, its never been far from my heart. Some quick doodling turned out a potential villain idea that I would love to expand on. After finishing, the Star Trek Enterprise cannons seem to have made an obvious impression on me. Will probably tweak that a bit before finalizing a design. I like to keep things leaning towards the Golden Age of comics and I think this fits. Hopefully I'll have time to flesh him out soon. Fingers crossed.

While not immediately obvious that its Johnny Cash related, its directly inspired by "Boy Named Sue" by Mr. Cash. That combined with my obsession with Penny Arcade's "Strip Search" series has made me want to give a quick shot at a web strip. I'd like to try it again in the future, but not sure what projects that would work for.

Feels like forever since I've drawn this guy. This is a more refined, Disney-esque interpretation of him that I might use for close ups or cut scenes. Its starting to bum me out that its been so long since I've cracked open Construct 2. My schedule is filling up at a dizzying pace and I haven't quite figured it out yet. I'm still convinced that the key is getting my workouts in the morning to free up my evenings. An overwhelming love of sleep is making that problematic. Some background elements might cheer me up. I'll have to keep my iPad and laptop handy to try and bang out some items soon. At least that's the current plan.

I had the great honor of attending and drawing for Free Comic Book Day in Cleveland. It was my first time taking requests for sketches and once the initial shyness wore off, I got into a groove. I met a lot of nice people. John and Carol's Comic Shop created a mini comic con that put a spotlight on comics that was sorely needed. I hope the artist alley becomes a tradition and that I'm included next year. It was a lot of fun.
